A call is being made to Maine journalists, both working and retired-- print, broadcast and digital -- to join a new media community, to help support, encourage and celebrate Maine journalism endeavors and their media outlets.
In fact, we welcome all journalists, writers, reporters, editors, publishers, and First Amendment advocates interested in joining their peers and colleagues while helping to enrich their media platforms in the process.
“Our plan is to start small, as an informal community of journalists, to meet from time-to- time, and to break bread together at a dinner party later in the year,” said George Frangoulis, the group’s founder.
“However, we hope this new group will provide a professional network and help support and encourage excellence in Maine’s journalistic endeavors,” said Frangoulis.
If there is strong interest by our community of journalists, we will attempt to accomplish future goals to assist members by providing roundtable discussions, workshops and professional development classes.
Frangoulis, Executive Producer and Co-host of "Belfast Alive" community TV show, said the idea for this new journalism and media group was first proposed by Michael Hurley (former 4-time City of Belfast mayor) during a recent on-air discussion they held.
Frangoulis’ bonafides include his 15-year stint as founder and publisher of The Farmstead Press in Freedom, Maine, with its myriad publications: Farmstead Magazine, Maine Life, West Florida Life, and Successful Magazine Publishing, which served as the official journal of the Successful Magazine Publishers’ Group.
For over 30 years, he has served as professor of journalism at several colleges and universities. He currently produces and co-hosts the community TV program, “Belfast Alive.”
If you are interested in joining our community of journalists and media people, OR just find out more, please contact George Frangoulis.
